What to avoid
Bold or distracting colours
While a seller may love their bright pink or blue home, this isn’t always appealing to buyers searching for their new abode.
A fluorescent door or purple pebble dash might put off a buyer even stepping foot in the door.
The experts said: “If the colour of your home is too bold or bright, it may turn off potential buyers.
“Consider painting the exterior of your home in a more neutral colour that will appeal to a wider range of people.”
Lighting can make a huge difference to the outside appearance of a home.

The experts said: “Make sure your front porch and entryway are well-lit, and consider adding some outdoor lighting to highlight your home’s best features.”

Keep it clean and tidy
Sellers need to do everything they can to ensure their homes look clean and tidy to sellers.

Sweep the front porch, walkway, and driveway and remove any debris or clutter from the front garden.
Make sure the windows are clean and free of any streaks or smudges, cobwebs or dirt.
Add some colour
Planting some colourful flowers or plants in pots or flower beds will add both colour and life to the front of a home which will make it more appealing to buyers.
However, sellers will need to make sure the plants are well-maintained and watered.
Enhance the entryway
The experts said: “The front door is the focal point of your home’s exterior, so consider giving it a fresh coat of paint or replacing it if it’s outdated.
“Add a welcome mat and consider installing a new light fixture or house numbers to spruce up the entryway.”
Improve the landscaping
Trim any overgrown bushes or trees and make sure the lawn is mowed and edged.
Sellers should also consider adding some new landscaping features, such as a small fountain or decorative rocks.
Repair any damage
Damage such as cracks in the driveway or missing roof shingles need to be repaired before putting the home on the market.
