Cleaning influencer Lynsey Queen of Clean recommended the tip to Express.co.uk. She advised: “Using baking soda in the machine can help to keep the smell of washing machine away. It’s really good.”
Baking soda famously absorbs smells.
This is because it’s a pH neutraliser, and acids are generally what cause bad smells.
How to use baking soda to clean your washing machine
Mix white vinegar with baking soda to create a paste.
Put this paste in the detergent drawer of your washing machine.
Add around 250ml of white vinegar to the drum and run the machine on a hot cycle.
After, run another hot cycle to rinse the machine.
Cleaning expert Lynsey offered another handy washing machine tip.
“Also,” she said, “when it’s like this, like in the summer months when you’ve done your load just always leave the door open for a few minutes.

Lynsey also advised using baking soda while washing your clothes, adding “it’s really versatile”.
She said: “Bicarb is good to use in your laundry because it’s a natural whitener.
“So, if you’ve got a white load to wash just pop a big spoonful of bicarb, just to keep those whites and to give them that ping.”

She went on: “Bicarbonate it’s really good at absorbing odours.
“You can make a homemade fridge refresher with it.
“Just use bicarb and an essential oil and leave it overnight and it’s going to suck up all that horrible stuff.”
Lynsey also advised her best product to clean the kitchen floor.
Lynsey uses a certain head for her floor wipe mop to get the dirt up.
She said: “I do like using a head with microfiber padding because I think microfiber is going to lift the dirt rather than push it around.
“Those wipes are only pushing your dirt around your kitchen. They’re not fixing it.”
Additionally using wipes is bad for the environment.
